Footprint visits Coto Island with RTC Vietnam

Footprint Travel and friends had the opportunity to take part in an inspection trip facilitated by Vietnam’s Responsible Travel Club to the little-known Coto Island in Northern Vietnam.

The purpose of the trip was two fold. First, it was a chance for Footprint to seek out new, off the beaten track destinations to offer their guests. And second, to meet with locals and community groups in hopes to raise awareness about the impacts, benefits and opportunities of responsible tourism and tourism development.

Over three days, both Son and Hanna represented Footprint. The pair took part in a beach clean-up, stayed with local families, enjoyed a beach-side BBQ, and did some swimming.

For those interested in exploring the gorgeous, empty beaches of Coto Island, to get there it takes about 5 hours by car, then another 1.5 hours by boat. “A little long for a short stay,” says Hanna, a travel consultant at Footprint “but it is well worth it for those who are little more intrepid. Local home stays are yet to be set up, so those thinking about staying the night will have to camp”.

Nevertheless, the beach is probably one of the best in all of Vietnam. The seafood is amazing, and the locals are friendly.
